Luis Castro,  M.D.

Dr. Luis Castro has been Sequoia Hospital’s Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery since 2007.  Under his leadership, Sequoia Hospital has been recognized as one of the top cardiac centers for best surgical outcomes in the country. Dr. Castro received his medical degree at Stanford University School of Medicine, completing his internship and residency in general surgery at Stanford as well. Dr. Castro completed his cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the University of Southern California and is board certified in surgery and thoracic surgery. Dr. Castro has been involved in or performed more than 7,000 cardiac operations and has particular interest in minimally invasive heart surgery and complex valve repair and reconstruction.

Dr. Castro is active in the field of clinical and outcomes-based research and quality assurance.  He has been published in numerous publications and has presented multiple times at scientific sessions. Dr. Castro is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Western Thoracic Surgical Association and the Society of Thoracic Surgery. He has served as a consultant for Medtronic and St. Jude Medical, Inc.
