Robert G. O'Donnell

Immediate Past Chair

Upon his retirement in 2011, Robert G. O’Donnell had completed a forty year career with Capital Group (American Funds). At that firm, he was a portfolio manager in several mutual funds and was Principal Executive Officer of the American Balanced Fund. Bob graduated summa cum laude from UC Berkeley in 1965 and received his MBA there in 1966. He also holds a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Stanford University . Bob is a CPA and a CFA. He has been recognized for his philanthropic work, most notably with the Chancellor’s Award at Berkeley in 2008 and with the 2011 Business Leader of the Year Award at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. For the past thirteen years, he has been a member of the Professional Faculty at the Haas School where he teaches investment strategy. He chaired the UC Berkeley Foundation from 2005 to 2007. Bob serves on the boards of the San Francisco Symphony, Berkeley Endowment Management Company, Summit Public Schools, and the Hoover Institution. He joined the Sequoia Hospital Foundation Board in 2009. Bob and his wife Sue live in Atherton.
